Nothing strikes fear in the heart of any mother/ parent more than the word REFLUX. Before I had children I had known of reflux very well through my years of working with children but we were more like distant acquaintances, after having children Reflux was like the blind date from hell.

Now I’m not going to lie. Reflux is real (yes naysayers it does exist) and it can be headspinning especially when comes to sleep, sleep training, self sleeping  and the all round well being of your little human.

Having the responsibility of keeping a little one alive is hard enough (hello insomnia) especially in those first 6 months but when Reflux is around it can make all the hard things much worse. Sleep Regression/ PURPLE phases and colic have all been attributed to reflux (they are not the cause of these things) yet they can make them harder.

Here are a few things to keep in mind to get you through!

1) First and formost as is the case with any health concerns with your child, always seek the help of a medical heath practitioner. This will give you piece of mind and also arm you with all the information needed redarding Reflux, Slient Reflux, CMPI and Colic.

2)  Have a support network. This just doesn’t mean just immediate family. Reach out to others in the same boat as you. Unless you have experienced reflux first hand as a parent I’m sorry but you just don’t get it. There is a great page  Reflux support group on FB.

3) Regarding sleep, seek professional help and don’t be afraid to reach out.  We have intimate experience dealing with Reflux and we would be honoured to help.
